Conference programme

Each day starts with an all-in singing session, and ends with a movement session. A great way to start and finish each day!

Morning Tea, Lunch, Afternoon Tea & 25th Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday evening - are included in the programme as opportunities to meet other participants as well as keep up energy levels!

Teaching Sessions: A wide range of sessions based on music, dance and education will be grouped according to the particular areas of teaching, Early Childhood, Early Primary and Middle Years. Topics include Composition and Improvisation, Jewish dancing, Irish Music, Aural Ideas in the Secondary School and Recorder in the Music Program.

Special Guests

Gerard Van de Geer is a graduate from the Conservatorium of Music and the Faculty of Education at the University of Tasmania. A primary music educator for more than 25 years, Gerard brings a wealth of teaching experience to all his workshops and presentations. He has presented at both national and international music education conferences, symposia, forums and Orff Accreditation Courses. Gerard has most recently worked as Senior Curriculum Officer for The Arts within the Tasmanian Department of Education. He currently holds a fulltime position as Lecturer in Multi-Media Communication/Arts within the Faculty of Education at the University of Tasmania.

Dr Carol Richards is a senior lecture at the University of Newcastle. She has been an exponent of the Orff approach for over 20 years. She has taught K&endash;12 in two continents, published an Orff resource, Sketches in Style, with her colleague, Neil Aubrey, and is currently editor of the National Journal, Musicworks. She has presented workshops nationally and internationally and was a teacher at the summer school at the Orff Institute.

Sarah Brooke has worked as a music specialist in Melbourne Government and Catholic primary schools and kindergartens around the state. She has also worked as a sessional music instructor at a women's prison. Sarah has received a Graduate Diploma in Music Education and has currently moved to the country where she is teaching in two small primary schools.

Susie Davies-Splitter is currently Director of Music at The King David School. She is a composer, jazz musician and teacher, who has taught in the USA and New Zealand and produces the Welcome to Music range of music education resources for teachers and families.

Bronwyn Forster is a practising early childhood teacher who has a passionate interest in developing an inclusive and creative environment for young children. She encourages us all to develop our own creative awareness and extend this to the children we work with.

Judy Johnstone is an experienced Orff music specialist teacher. She has a Graduate Diploma in Orff Music Education and has been teaching in the Sunshine Small Schools Network for the past five years.

Gary King has a wealth of experience in music teaching, especially in the Orff Approach. He is completing a thesis on Creative Music at the University of Melbourne. He directs school performances and workshops focused on Celtic Music and Dance.

Christoph Maubach Christoph Maubach is an Orff music education specialist who has worked in Australia for over twenty years. He is based in Melbourne and has been a lecturer in music education at Australian Catholic University for more than 12 years. He has presented many workshops and presentations overseas.

Heather McLaughlin has taught music to all ages for many years, with a special interest in young children, families and marimbas. She has recently returned from teaching in Japan for two years.

Carolyn Royal is a P&endash;10 music specialist. She has presented at many Orff Schulwerk conferences and level courses both in Australia and overseas. She is the founder of the successful performing group Emenji.

Barb Shearer is an experienced Primary School teacher. She has taught at many Orff conferences and Orff Level courses both state and nationally. Her love is a' capella singing.
