Pedagogy - Technique and Improvisation:

This subject aims to develop competency in:

  1. Teach a vocal or instrumental arrangement, which uses 2 chords ( I - ii; I - V; I - vi)
  2. Teach an unaccompanied song using echo and chaining techniques
  3. Devise an activity to teach a concept using Orff Teaching Techniques.

Recorder:

Aims to develop:

Assessment:

  1. improvise in doh, lah pentatonic;
  2. play 1 1/2 octaves on the alto recorder
  3. play selected pieces demonstrating correct techniques in breathing, phrasing, tone, articulation.

Vocal:

Assessment:

  1. practise singing and signing with a partner, beginning in doh and lah pentatonic
  2. sing a simple melody using solfa and handsigns
  3. write a sung ostinato to a melody

Literature, Orchestration and Analysis:

Aims to develop:

Assessment:

  1. analyse a piece for its melodic and rhythmic content and possible uses for teaching
  2. arrange songs using 2 chord songs: I - ii, I - iv, I - V.

Movement and Dance:

  1. create a dance that demonstrates musical structures clearly
  2. use dance notation to notate dances
